This course covers key essentials in sustainable building technology, primarily in the areas of lighting, hvac, and plumbing. Sustainable technology and design seeks to reduce negative impacts on the environment, and the health and comfort of building occupants, thereby improving building performance.

The basic objectives of sustainability are to reduce consumption of non-renewable resources, minimize waste, and create healthy, productive environments. Design and construction of buildings and related infrastructure create major direct and indirect impacts on the environment.

At the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Select key lighting system and electrical power system design features for sustainable building technology.
  • Recognize how mechanical and central plant system design impacts energy efficiency.
  • List the factors involved in sustainable plumbing systems and water use in a facility.
  • Explain electric power metering principles and proper use in energy management and sustainable design.
