Green residential projects fall behind when sustainable features are treated as an add-on instead of part of the job plan. Missed lead times, poor sequencing, unclear trade expectations, and loose coordination around performance requirements lead to delays and avoidable errors. They also bring budget pressure and compliance or quality issues that are harder to fix the later they’re caught.

This course shows builders how to manage sustainable choices across the full project lifecycle in BC, from scope definition and procurement through scheduling, trade coordination, quality control, inspections, documentation, and handover. It focuses on practical, site-ready methods: early planning, critical path thinking, contingency planning, and clear communication with trades and suppliers. Real project examples show how material selection, commissioning, waste reduction, and early consultant or trade involvement affect the schedule.

The payoff is green builds that keep pace with conventional ones. Performance requirements are built into the plan from day one, trades know what’s expected, and there are fewer surprises at inspection and handover.

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify schedule and coordination risks created by sustainable building choices on BC residential projects.
  • Plan project scope, procurement, sequencing, and budgeting to keep green builds on track without compromising compliance or quality.
  • Communicate performance requirements and project expectations clearly with trades, suppliers, and other project partners.
  • Manage documentation, inspections, handover, and contingency planning for common BC project risks.
