Most architects, landscape architects, civil and mechanical engineers, construction managers, general contractors, and their clients have only infrequent encounters with projects that include swimming pools or other aquatic features. College undergraduate and graduate-level studies rarely address the subject of swimming pools at all. As a result, most designers and builders have not developed the necessary in-house resources for design and construction and have sometimes relied on less-than-reliable sources of information during project programming.
This 2-hour online course will provide design team members with an overview of the specialized language of pools and a deeper understanding of the challenges encountered in aquatic design. Later courses in this series will cover design criteria, coordination issues, and construction methods. This initial course is intended to expand the knowledge base of non-aquatic designers and improve their communication with aquatics specialists who only occasionally join the rest of the design team.
