Sheet steel stud walls look straightforward until you cross the line from prescriptive Part 9 framing into loadbearing applications that require Part 4 structural design — and that boundary is easy to miss without knowing exactly where it sits. This course gives BC home builders practical working knowledge of Code requirements for roof and ceiling framing, roof and wall sheathing material and installation standards, and the critical distinction between permitted non-loadbearing sheet steel stud framing and out-of-scope applications.
You'll also learn the component standards that apply to permitted steel stud installations and how to use the prescriptive table correctly, without extending it beyond its intended scope.
At the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Apply Code requirements for roof and ceiling framing under Part 9
- Meet material and installation standards for roof and wall sheathing
- Distinguish prescriptive non-loadbearing sheet steel stud wall framing from out-of-scope loadbearing applications requiring Part 4 design
- Apply the standards and component requirements for permitted non-loadbearing sheet steel stud wall framing
- Use the applicable prescriptive table correctly for non-loadbearing sheet steel stud walls and recognize when it doesn't apply
