Residential construction sites often bring multiple employers and crews together on the same job, and that overlap is where miscommunication turns into real hazards. This course prepares you to identify your site's coordination structure, notify the prime contractor or qualified coordinator before work that could create risk for other trades, and stay engaged through toolbox talks and incident reporting — so every crew on site stays informed and protected.
At the end of the course participants will be able to:
- Identify when a residential construction site is considered a multiple-employer workplace and explain why coordination is essential for safe operations.
- Recognize common multi-trade hazards created by overlapping or adjoining work activities on residential construction sites.
- Describe the roles and responsibilities of the owner, prime contractor, qualified coordinator, subcontractor employers, and workers in maintaining site coordination.
- Identify the prime contractor and understand when a qualified coordinator is required to oversee worksite coordination.
- Locate and use site-specific coordination information provided through orientations, safety plans, and other site communication processes.
- Recognize when planned work may create hazards for other trades and determine when advance notification or coordination is required before work begins.
- Apply appropriate coordination practices for common residential construction activities, including overhead work, shared access equipment, energized work, and excavations.
- Participate effectively in toolbox talks, safety meetings, and daily communication processes by sharing relevant hazards, work changes, incidents, and near misses with the appropriate site personnel.
- Apply practical daily coordination habits that help reduce risks, improve communication, and support safe multi-trade residential construction sites.
