Framing errors around openings and intersections are one of the most common triggers for a structural inspection flag — and they're easy to avoid once you know exactly what the Code expects before you start cutting. This course gives BC home builders the baseline rules for compliant corner and intersection framing, then walks through the highest-frequency issue builders run into: exactly when studs around openings must be doubled or tripled, and how those members need to be fastened to act as a single unit.

You'll also cover stud continuity through storey height, trimmer joist sizing around floor openings, and when prescriptive framing gives way to required calculation — bringing it all together into inspection-ready field application.

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Apply the baseline rules for compliant corner and intersection framing across common wall conditions
  • Determine when studs around openings must be doubled or tripled, and fasten those members to act as a single unit
  • Apply stud continuity requirements through full storey height, including the practical exception and applicable splicing restrictions
  • Frame floor openings correctly, including when trimmer joists must be doubled and when calculation is required in place of prescriptive framing
  • Apply inspection-focused field review to catch common structural framing errors before they reach the inspector
